GIS- THE MOST IMPORTANT INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE FORUM IN EASTERN EUROPE, ORGANIZED IN BUCHAREST WITH THE PARTICIPATION OF ARCHITECTS FROM 15 COUNTRIES AND OF THE EUROPEAN COUNCIL OF INTERIOR ARCHITECTS
GIS brings up for debate on the 22nd and 23rd of March the role of architecture and interior design in improving the quality of life and the way in which this can influence social and cultural environments and also learning and working environments. The conference is organized at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Bucharest and is as Chairman by arch. Șerban Țigănaș the President of the Romanian Order of Architects.
GIS brings for the first time in Romania, as special guest, in the opening of the event, one of the most well-known Scandinavian architects, arch. Rainer Mahlamäki and arch. Jan Geysen , Vice President of ECIA- The European Council of Interior Architects. The Chamber of Architects în Bulgaria (CAB) is represented at GIS by arch. Nicolas Galabov, CAB Vice President, former coordonator of ACE- Architects’ Council of Europe- thematic area „ Architecture and the quality of life” awarded in Bulgaria and in The USA for its’ outstanding professional contribution. GiS, the most prestigeous event throughout the year, dedicated to interior architecture gathers, in Bucharest, architects and interior designers from Finland, Thailand, France, The United Kingdom, Italy, Spain, Slovenia, The Netherlands, Bulgaria, Portugal, Belgium, The Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Poland and Romania, winners of the most recent editions of international competitions, together with 250 architects from all the OAR branches in the country who will participate at the conference, selected on the basis of their work portfolio from the past 3 years.

International debate dedicated to Fire Safety, dedicated to architects and engineers
On the 22nd of March 2016, in the forum opening an international debate will be organized with the most current topic in the national and international context- projects and problems of interior regarding fire safety.
„Lighting Design” Masterclass, on the 23rd of March
Colin Ball, Lighting Director at the BDA London office, winner of the 2015 World Interior Awards- Best Lighting, collaborator in projects signed by star architects such as Zaha Hadid and Daniel Libeskind, will hold a master class with the subject „Lighting an idea”, at GIS.
5 work sessions with the thematic: Education and Culture, Corporate spaces & Institutional; Healthcare; Hotels, Bars and Restaurants, Residential, with guests who have international awarded projects: Tachapol Danaboonchai, from Thailand winner of the 2015 famous INSIDE World Festival of Interiors competition in the category „Bars and Restaurants”; Carlo Berarducci- Italy, finalist in 2015 at INSIDE – Restaurants; Cédric Ramière, from France , winner of the Leaf Awards 2014- Refurbishment of the Year; Dean Lah, from Slovenia winner of the Golden Pencil and Plečnik Medal in 2014, Michael Setter, from Israel, 2015 European Property Awards, London- Best Office Interior, winner; 2015 Design Award Israel, Robby Cantarutty, from Italy, winner of the 2015 Leaf Awards- Residential Building of the Year- Single Occupancy.
In the plenary session dedicated to healthcare spaces, designer Rai Pinto, from Spain, explains the concepts of „hospital humanization” through the project made for the Children’s Hospital „ Sant Joan de Déu” in Barcelona. In this session, other architects that will give presentations are arch. Luis Pedra Silva, from Portugal, winner of the 2015 edition of the Asia Pacific Design awarded by IIDA- International Interior Design Association in the healthcare category and Dorte Kristensen, winner in 2015 of the Interior Design Awards-Healthcare and WAN Awards-Healthcare, in 2014. Remarkable projects made in Romania are presented by: acad.prof.dr. Romeo Belea, conf.dr. arch. Radu Pană, arch. Anda Manu, arch. Sergiu Petrea, arch. Mario Kuibus, arch. Victor Grosu, arch. Alberto Bianco, arch. Matius Ichim, arch. Robert Marin etc.
“Romania Interior Architecture – the best of 2015”
In order to support in this international context the acknowledgement and the promotion of the key projects from the past few years from Romania, within GIS a exposition ” Romania Interior Architecture – the best of 2015″ will be organized for the first time, followed by the GIS Distinctions Gala, on the evening of the 22nd March 2016. The winners of the GIS Distinctions and their projects will be highlighted and promoted subsequently in the series of conferences organized this year in Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Turkey.
The International GIS Conference, dedicated to architecture and interior design is organized by the cultural association PROEvent, ABplus Events together with the Romanian Order of Architects, in partnership with „Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urbanism, The „Vito Groso” Italian Cultural Institution in Bucharest, The French Institute in Bucharest, The Embassy of Slovenia and the Embassy of Finland.

Short description of the Special Guest at GIS edition 2016:
Arh. Rainer Mahlamäki has won in 2014 the first ever architecture prize awarded by the Finnish Association of Architects( SAFA). The architect’s portfolio is comprised of 37 international and national awards and other 57 awards. In addition, he is the author of most grandiose museum în Europe, technological- wise, the Polin Museum, dedicated to the Jewish Community in Poland. Having a vast experience in the field of cultural and educational projects, with countless museum in his portfolio, the Finnish architect is a jury member in the international competition launched for the new MNIR- The National History Museum of Romania.
